Global migration legislation is very dynamic. Every day, in different countries of the world, leaders work to improve their own migration legislation: they approve new rules for crossing borders, change the procedure for issuing a legal residence permit, reformulate the package of documents necessary, etc. It is sometimes difficult to encompass all the innovations that are occurring in global migration policy. We have prepared for you information about the main changes in migration legislation in several countries around the world in June 2023. European Union "Single authorization" The European Union continues to work on updating the procedure for obtaining a "single permit" - a document that gives the right to legally live and work in the EU to foreigners who are citizens of countries that are not part of the European Union. In particular, on 8 June 2023, the EU Council agreed its position on the renewal of EU legislation relating to legal migration into the EU labor market. The updated rules simplify the application procedure and make it more efficient. Workers from third countries will have more rights and will be better protected. Thanks to the "unified authorization", EU leaders intend to reduce staff shortages in the region. Based on the approved common position, the Council may begin negotiations with the European Parliament to reach agreement on the final text of the document. Strengthen the asylum procedure After years of disputes, the EU agreed to reform the asylum system. Its main objective is to reduce the flow of people without the right to protection. The EU asylum procedure will be significantly strengthened. The changes provide, in particular, for a much stricter border crossing procedure for migrants.

In the future, people arriving from countries considered safe will have to undergo a control procedure at the reception point after crossing the border: within twelve weeks, the competent services will check whether the applicant has a chance of receiving asylum. If not, the applicant is immediately repatriated. During the negotiations, representatives of the German Government strongly advocated that families with children be exempt from so-called border procedures. Federal Minister of the Interior, Nancy Feser, stated that the federal government will continue to work to ensure the protection of children's rights. Poland From 24 June 2023, changes to the rules governing special data  the issuance of residence permits for long-term residents of the European Union will come into force. From now on, one of the requirements for issuing a permit will be confirmation of a foreigner's knowledge of the Polish language at B1 level. A foreigner can confirm his knowledge of the Polish language with the help of appropriate certificates. Australia In June, there will be many changes to Australia's migration policy: End of temporary relaxation of international students' working rights - international students in Australia generally have limited working rights. However, to help Australian businesses recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Australian Government has introduced a temporary relaxation of work rights for student visa holders. This temporary relief will expire on July 1, 2023. Only international students working in the aged care sector will be able to continue working without restrictions.

This right will remain until December 31, 2023. New Zealand citizens will be able to apply for Australian citizenship - From 1 July 2023, New Zealand citizens who have lived in Australia for more than four years and who arrived in Australia after 26 February 2011 will be able to apply for Australian citizenship without have to apply for a permanent visa. These changes only apply to New Zealand citizens holding a Special Category (Subclass 444) visa (SCV). Increase in visa processing fees - from July 1, 2023, visa processing fees will increase by an amount of 6 to 40%. The increase will affect the following types of visas: - guest visa, work visa, study and temporary work permit - by 15%; - investment visas - 40%; - other visas - 6%; - Pacific Engagement Visa and Pacific Australia Labor Mobility Visa - Exempt from promotion. Find out everything about the rules for obtaining a work visa, its types and the documents required  here . Migration legislation is complex and quite dynamic.
